Name: Paul Mills

Age: 30

Position: Centre Midfield


He’s another ex-Mexborough Sportsman Athletic player who signed for us in September. He’s played most of his career at Centre Half but we promised if he signed for us we’d give him a go in midfield and he’s been there all season. Teams up well with fellow midfielder Mick Russon holding the centre ground while Mick run about the pitch.  

Little Known Fact – Paul has a twin brother called Flash (click flash for photo)


Name: Ryan Scott

Age: 30

Position: Centre Half


Captain of the team who’s moved from midfield to Centre Half this season and formed a solid partnership with Connor Hale. His experience has really helped the younger members of the side, always encourages the team and takes his role as Captain seriously.

Little Known Fact – Likes an Indian meal on a Friday night, not popular on a Saturday afternoon



Name: Michael Russon

Age: 20

Position: Midfield


A combative midfielder who’s not afraid to put his foot in. He’s been one of our star players this season, full of energy and running, especially when asked to pay his subs!! He seems to cover every blade of grass and is one of the first players on the team sheet.  

Little Known Fact – Was once a choir boy and sang with Aled Jones.



Name: Craig Pears

Age: 27

Position: Goalkeeper


Another Denaby lad who became the Managers seventh goalkeeper of the season when he signed in December. A steady pair of hands who commands his goal area and lets his defence know whos boss. Hopefully he’ll see the season out in a United No.1 shirt.

Little Known Fact – A Newcastle AND Sheffield United fan?



Name: Connor Hale

Age: 17

Position: Centre Half


Another player who stepped up from junior football this season. An ever-present this whose consistent performances have made him irreplaceable in the United defence. A good header of the ball and strong tackler. Likes to get forward at any opportunity, has scored one goal this season.

Little Known Fact – Seriously thinks that Megan Fox is his girlfriend



Name: Jason Astphall

Age: 28

Position: Striker


Signed for us in January from Mexborough Sportsman Athletic and has been a revelation scoring 4 in 3 league games. An old fashioned type of Centre Forward who also has a knack of scoring from range, he doesn’t tend to score unmemorable goals. Recently injured but hopefully he’ll be back quickly and play a part in the run in.

Little Known Fact – Still rides a BMX to home matches




Name: Daniel Noonan 


Position: Midfield


He’s a useful Winger who has also played full back, upfront and even in goal. Like a lot of our team he stepped up from junior football this season. He’s chipped in with a creditable 8 goals this season so far. Being the Managers son doesn’t give him any favouritism, he’s usually the one who has to play in unfamiliar positions to help the team.

Little Known Fact – He was once the mascot for the original Denaby United FC 



Name: Ainsley Finney

Age: 18

Position: Striker


A relatively new addition to the squad, signing mid way through the season. He’s lost no time in proving his worth and has scored two league goals from 7 appearances.     A tall skilful player who gets better with each start.

Little Known Fact – Has all the Teletubbies which he still sleeps with at night.



Name: Jack Vickers

Age: 17

Position: Wide Midfield


Another product of local junior football he signed for us back in August. At times he’s found the transition to adult football difficult, but he’s definitely got the skills to play at a higher level. His three league goals this season show that he knows where the net is, he just needs to be a bit more consistent.

Little Known Fact – Is in love with Jessie from Toy Story




Name: Mathew Bamford

Age: 19

Position: Midfield


Has found it hard to dislodge our regular midfield pairing but when given an opportunity he rarely disappoints. He scored a crucial goal in a 1-0 away win at Scawthorpe & Bentley Rhinos in November, shortly after signing. 

Little Known Fact – Still has a paper round



Name: Scott Aspinall

Age: 23

Position: Striker


A versatile player who has filled in at full back and both wings, but favours the Centre Forward shirt. He was an early season pacesetter scoring 4 goals in the first three league games, he’s now got 9 making him our second highest scorer. Has great heart and always give everything for the team.

Little Known Fact –Take That fan club member



Name: Ryan Oakley

Age: 18

Position: Striker


A Denaby lad who loves playing for his local team, he’s ours and the Leagues top scorer with 24 goals. He played last season for Swinton Station Athletic and before that he was on Rotherham United’s books. A skilled player destined for a higher grade of football. Watch out for his acrobatic goal celebration.

Little Known Fact – Only eats Super Noodles, Bombay Bad Boy is his favourite.



Name: Ashley Cantrill

Age: 19

Position: Full Back


Started off this season in midfield but Manager Paul Noonan converted him to full back and he’s held his place since. He’s a fiery player who never gives less than 100% and has become one of our most improved players. A good balanced player, who’s comfortable on the ball.

Little Known Fact – Loves Disney films, particularly the Lion King



Name: Paul Irwin

Age: 32

Position: Full Back


He signed in October and has played at full Back ever since, has a good change of pace and likes taking the ball forward at every opportunity. Good in the tackle and quite pacy for an old man.

Little Known Fact – Once had a male modelling contract with Toni and Guy.



Name: Luke King

Age: 21

Position: Centre Half


One of the first players to sign for the new Denaby United back in August last year, and another Denaby lad who’s proud to wear the shirt. Plays his best football at Centre Half where he’s dependable and solid. He has also played in goal this season.

Little Known Fact – Owns every Enrique Iglesias album ever made.




Name: Enzo Gaurini

Age: 16

Position: Wide Midfield


Despite his young age Enzo has been a key player in our season so far, he signed from Rotherham club Millmoor Juniors in the summer and hasn’t looked back. He has good ball control and is one of the quickest players in the side. As his name suggests he’s from Italian stock and certainly has Italian flair.

Little Known Fact – Enzo is Italian for Henry   


Name: Mathew Cocksedge

Age: 24

Position: Midfield


Can play full back, but favours midfield. Gives cover in most positions and always performs consistently. His limited availability this season and consistency of our midfield has meant he hasn’t played as much as he’d have liked, but he’s still a valued member of the squad.

Little Known Fact – He cried when Balamory was taken off TV




Name: Paul Noonan

Position: Manager


Like a lot of our team Paul was involved in junior football last season and moved up to manage the new Denaby United two weeks before the season started. He’s created a minor miracle by pulling together a squad who’ve taken the Doncaster & District Senior League by storm. The League success has been complemented by good cup runs in all the competitions entered. His passion for Denaby United is second to none and he’s instilled that in his players.


Name: Pat Hale

Position: Assistant Manager


A veteran of junior football this is Pats first post at a senior club, but he’s made the transition well. His first sport is boxing where he coaches local youths, some of which play for the football team.
